when my dear old mum passed away in 1988, Phil sent me the most touching and comforting letter which really helped me in my grief. It also revealed to me a hidden depth in Phil's character that was never obviously apparent during all our previous years of friendship.

Previous to that, when he became aware that I'd effectively been mum's carer for some considerable time, he made me aware of, & helped me sort out claiming attendance allowance to ease the burden of looking after her.

I'll particularly miss randomly bumping into him in the town & our random chats about all sorts of subjects..
